Leben in Deutschland Online

Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Leben in Deutschland Online (the “App”) does not require an account and does not send your study data to any server. The App displays ads via Google AdMob and offers an optional one-time in-app purchase to remove ads, processed through Apple and RevenueCat. Data collected by these services is described below.

Information stored on your device

To make the App useful between sessions, the following information is stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage (no cloud sync):

  • Your selected interface language and translation preferences.
  • The Bundesland (federal state) you selected.
  • Your study goal, target exam date, and reminder time (if you enable reminders).
  • Your progress: bookmarked questions, questions answered correctly or incorrectly, and counts of incorrect answers per question.
  • Theme preference (light/dark) and other interface settings.

This information is removed when you delete the App or clear the App’s data through iOS settings.

Advertising

The App uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob), which may collect:

  • Your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS) — only if you allow it via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. Otherwise non-personalised ads are shown.
  • IP address, coarse location derived from IP, device model, OS version, language and similar technical data.
  • Ad interaction events (impressions, clicks) used to measure ad performance and prevent fraud.

Google acts as an independent data controller for the above. See the Google Privacy Policy. In the EU/UK, ad personalisation is gated behind a consent prompt.

In-App Purchases

The App offers a one-time purchase (“Remove Ads”) processed by Apple through the App Store. To verify and restore entitlements across your devices, the App uses RevenueCat, Inc. as a purchase-management backend. RevenueCat may collect:

  • A device identifier and an anonymous RevenueCat-generated user ID.
  • Purchase receipts and transaction identifiers provided by Apple to confirm entitlement status.
  • App version, platform, and locale used at the time of purchase.

RevenueCat does not receive your Apple ID, name, or payment card details — those remain with Apple. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy for full details. We do not use purchase data for advertising.

Notifications

If you enable study reminders, the App schedules local notifications on your device. These notifications are generated locally by iOS — no notification content is sent through any server.

Data we (the developer) do not collect

We do not ask for and do not receive your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or precise location. We do not run analytics of our own and we do not sell data. The third parties that receive data through the App are Google (AdMob) and RevenueCat (purchase management), as described above.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. Because the App displays third-party ads, we do not knowingly enable ad personalisation for users under 13.

Third-party content

The question catalogue is the official BAMF catalogue for the “Leben in Deutschland” / Einbürgerungstest. The App is not affiliated with or endorsed by BAMF. Coats of arms for each Bundesland are sourced from Wikimedia Commons.
